Hi Everyone! Purim, the fun-filled Jewish holiday, falls on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar. This year Purim begins Saturday night March 19, 2011. A new study by scientists in the United States and Spain found that the mutation causes a gene common inherited form of elevated levels of cholesterol in the with blood, Äúmild cognitive impairment, “said Au (MCI), a precursor to Alzheimer’s disease AM. Their research groups have examined the memory and causes involved in other brain functions in a group of patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, an inherited disease caused by a mutation in the receptor for low density lipoprotein, a protein in the cholesterol transport in cells. Patients with familial hypercholesterolemia showed a very high incidence of MCI (21 percent) compared to the same person without the disease (2.9 percent).
For nearly a decade has been the suspicion that people can high levels of cholesterol in the blood in midlife increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease OSA. However, it was proof of this association is controversial and the mechanism unknown. Although non-hereditary forms of Alzheimer’s disease AOS not see this type of mutation, the recent discovery Pappolla said, is of paramount importance because there is a defect in cholesterol transport systems underlying risk develop MCI.
