What causes a diabetic foot sore?
Sunday, July 31st, 2011
Diabetes is a disease that causes many health problems, including diabetic foot sore. The scientific name for diabetes is actually hyperglycemia, which means high blood sugar. Due to today’s extremely sweet filled diet we have more and more people becoming diabetics (and the defective gene is being passed on) Diabetes is where the organ commonly called the pancreas slows and sometime stops in the production of a necessary chemical known as insulin. Insulin is used by the body to change the sugar in the blood into fuel that the body’s cells are able to use. When the levels of insulin are low the sugar levels are high and this can cause severe damage to the body such as heart disease, heart damage, nerve damage, eye damage and blindness, kidney damage, diabetic foot sore, and kidney failure. These all effect the body over time. So making sure you monitor your blood sugar levels.
Diabetic foot sore is when the body’s nerves become damaged by the high sugar. The damage that occurs in the nerves happens all over the body, but is felt most in the feet as they feel the most movement and stress. When the nerves become damaged the feet may feel pain, tingling, numbness, or like you’re walking on needles. Diabetic foot sores form when the body’s nerves become unresponsive to pain and no longer transmit the signals. When a diabetic loses the feeling in their feet they may walk to the point that the develop sores on their feet and never notice them. These sores are extremely dangerous and may get infected which threatens the life of the diabetic. So talk to your doctor about diabetic foot sore as he may be able give you special ways of treating the sores and ways to prevent getting them. Also see about getting diabetic shoes.

2 Norwalk men hit the jackpot, win $1 million
Thursday, July 28th, 2011NORWALK – 294473.
That number gave Brandon Dupee a hunch after he asked his longtime neighbor, Lester Bilyou, Sr., to go in on a Fourth of July lottery ticket.
It was a good one.
The unlikely pair – Dupee, 27, and Bilyou, Sr., 90 – won the top prize of million in SuperDraw 2.
The winning was announced Thursday by lottery officials.
After taxes, each man has received 2,501.
Neither Dupee nor Bilyou, Sr., could be reached, but the older man’s son, Lester Bilyou, 61, confirmed they hit the jackpot.
“Brandon had said he had ‘a feeling,’ and asked my dad if he wanted to go in on a ticket,” Bilyou said. “He said, ‘Yeah, sure, why not.’”
Several days later, Dupee had another “feeling.” It was that second ticket, purchased at Cumberland Farms on 136 Main St., that yielded the winnings.
Bilyou, Sr., a World War II veteran and retired accountant, only plays games of chance “now and again,” his son said.
This time, it paid off.
“It will definitely change our lives somewhat, but we are not the type to let it go to our heads,” Bilyou said.
Rather than splurging on anything ritzy, the elder Bilyou will use the money to settle a reverse mortgage on his home, borrowed this year to alleviate the financial strain from his wife’s death in 2008.
“That will leave everything free and clear, then,” his son said.
Otherwise, the fortune has not fully sunk in.
“He talks about nickel-and-dime stuff, like, ‘Gee, this home business could make me a dollar per envelope,’” Bilyou said. “I say, ‘Uh, you don’t need that.’”
Good Foods for Diabetics
Tuesday, July 26th, 2011
Good foods for diabetics are generally the kinds of foods that would be good for anyone. The key issue in controlling diabetes by diet is to eat foods that will provide good healty nutrition without throwing glucose levels abnormally high. Since glucose is a simple form of sugar which the cells of the body need for fuel and glucose is present in nearly all foods it is therefore important for the diabetic to simply limit the consumption of foods that contain high levels of sugars and carbohydrates or starches which can be converted by the body into a large amount of glucose. This limiting of the glucose, or sugar, intake has the result of decreasing calorie intake to a large degree and therefore many of the diets that sre designed for weight loss are also good foods for diabetics. This means that to help maintain a glucose level that’s not too high the diabetic should limit their intake of sweets, potatoes, breads, pasta, and rice. As a general rule, white foods contain a good deal of starch which is easily converted into large amounts of glucose.
When good foods for diabetics, or even for weight loss, is considered one key thing to remember is that high protein foods are absolutely essential to maintain the muscles and keep the body healthy. Carbohydrates must be a part of everyone’s diet because they convert into glucose which the body needs for fuel, so no healthy diet can be a simple matter of not eating, the key is to eat the right foods in the right amounts.
The best place to get advice about good foods for diabetics is from the doctor responsible for the diabetic individual’s treatment. The doctor will be familiar with the individual’s dietary needs, medications, and overall health condition and will be able to either directly offer dietary advice or put the diabetic in touch with a nutritionist for assistance.

What is Indian Head Massage?
The art of Indian Head Massage originated from Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine. This Sanskrit word can be translated as the “science of life” or “knowledge of life”. The Ayurvedic approach to health is the balance of body, mind and spirit and the promotion of long life.
It is a form of relaxation massage that focuses on the face, head, neck, shoulders, upper back and upper arms which are important energy centers within the body. This form of massage is very relaxing and has a balancing effect on the recipient as it helps them to release stress and tension creating a sense of peace and well-being. Because this form of massage is done over the clothing in a seated position it can be done anywhere and at any time, making easily available just about anywhere.
Who Can Study Indian Head Massage?
If you are a holistic practitioner, spa owner/worker, registered massage therapist, aromatherapist, reflexologist, hair stylist or want to get started in holistic healing or massage then this is a wonderful modality for you to add to what you are already doing or to get you started on the path.
