Great Pumpkins! Norwalk, Westport, Weston, New Canaan, Wilton, to postpone Halloween

Monday, October 31st, 2011

WESTPORT –  In what is thought to be an unprecedented move, Norwalk and surrounding towns have postponed Halloween.

Norwalk, Wilton, Weston and Westport have all ‘postponed’ Halloween to Saturday due to the past weekend’s winter storm.

Even Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has said that he would turn around children coming to the governor’s mansion looking for candy.

Bucking the trend, the resilient residents of Darien will hold Halloween as planned, according to that town’s First Selectman’s office.

Mayor Richard A. Moccia on Monday afternoon asked that Halloween trick-or-treaters postpone their candy gathering until Saturday night.

“We’re going to ask everyone to postpone Halloween until Saturday,” Moccia said. “You still have several thousand people without power. There still might be some tree limbs on sidewalks, so thinking about the overall safety, I think postponing til the weekend might be the right thing to do.”

Moccia told The Hour that he planned to put the message out to residents via the city’s Notify Norwalk system.

In a statement released by Westport’s fire marshall it asks that residents go trick-or-treating on Nov. 5.

“After a meeting of town officials and local emergency management personnel it was determined that due to recent snow storm and power outages, it would not be safe to proceed with trick-or-treat activities normally held tonight for Halloween,” reads the statement. “The possibility of falling tree limbs, slippery surface conditions, and electrocution hazards remain very real throughout town, and the situation is as bad or worse than the recent damage caused by tropical storm Irene.”

In Weston, officials say roads are just too dangerous to risk it.

“Following discussions with the Police Department, and in order to provide a safe environment for Trick or Treating, we are postponing Halloween activities until Saturday, Nov. 5,” reads a statement from Weston. “Many of our streets may still be without power and with downed lines, making conditions unsafe.”

In Weston the Historical Society’s Scare Fair will take place on Saturday from 12-4 p.m., and the Ragamuffin parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Hurlbutt South House field. Westport has also postponed Halloween activities until Saturday.

The town of New Canaan posted on the following message on its website: Due to the extensive damage done by Saturday’s storm, the Halloween night, door to door, trick or treating has been postponed to Saturday evening, November 5, 2011. Due to the cancellation of the annual Halloween parade, the Town Hall and the Outback Teen Center will be hosting an indoor trick or treat on Halloween day from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

He established the famous “ House of Love and Prayer” in San Francisco in 1967 to draw back young Jews and non Jews who felt alienated by classical religions. Bringing the early Chassidism of the Holy Baal Shem Tov, to serve God and reach other people through Joy. He took off in a plane in November 1994 and had a heart attack, and took off directly to Dayan Haemet.

The same week passed away the Holy Rabbi Odesser Z”L Nahman Mi Uman, and Member of the Knesseth Rabbi Meir David Kahana, May Bob Dylan avenge his blood, you know Bob Dylan was a big fan of Rabbi Kahana. Of course we are going to play the most Jewish song of Bob Dylan NEIGHBORHOOD BULLY And we will sing together also Leonard Cohen’s songs like Halleluyah, Who by fire.

Dvar Torah – Shabbat Rosh Chodesh (MARCHESHVAN)

Dvar Torah – Shabbat Rosh Chodesh (MARCHESHVAN)

(If you dont want to get any more Amazing Dvar Torah messages click ‘unsubscribe’ at bottom of email!)
Chodesh Tov!! This Shabbat is Rosh Chodesh!
As we have started the month of Cheshvan, here is a message on the significance of the New Month in the Torah and the month we have just entered, Cheshvan.
Rosh Chodesh (the new month) symbolizes renewal, the ability of the Jews to elevate themselves from oblivion and restore itself to its past greatness. Just as the moon vanishes at the end of each month, but comes back and grows to fullness, so Israel may suffer exile and fall, but it always renews itself – until the coming of the Moshiach, when the promise of the Exodus and the Revelation at Mount Sinai will happen, never to be dimmed again.
We are introduced to the laws of Rosh Chodesh in the Torah reading of Parshat ‘Bo’ which is the third Parshah in the book of ‘Shemot.’
Cheshvan, the month following Tishrei in the modern Jewish calendar is referred to in the Tanach as the ‘Yerach Bul.’
In modern era, this month has become known as Cheshvan or Mar Cheshvan, which began at the time that Jews returned to Israel after the Babylonian Exile.
The prefix ‘Mar’ (which means bitter) is a source to this month, featuring no festivals or celebrations, but much suffering occurred for the Jewish people throughout history in this month. Also during this month, G-d brought down the Flood and drowned the world (except for Noach, his sons and his sons wives.) Mar also can be defined as ‘drop’ and refers to the first rains (the Yoreh), which fall in Cheshvan.
The month of Cheshvan always has a two-day Rosh Chodesh.
On the seventh day of Cheshvan those living in the land of Israel begin davening for rain by adding “Veten Tal U’Matar” to their Amidah prayers. If no rain has fallen by the 17th, a drought may be feared and ritual fasting and special prayer is common to commence.
The 27th of Cheshvan is observed by those who fast on Erev Rosh Chodesh as a Yom Kippur Katan (small scale Yom Kippur) fast day. If ten or more men are fasting, the passages of Vayechal is read during the Mincha service.
Many significant things occurred throughout Jewish history in this month, King Solomon completed the seven-year building of the Beit Hamikdash (Temple) during Cheshvan (which we learn in the book of Kings) and there should have been a festival. Though all Israel waited for G-d’s command concerning this dedication of the Temple, G-d waited until the next Tishrei (11 months later) before he finally commanded the dedication of the Temple.
This Dvar Torah is being sponsored by Moshe Ben Shalom Shlomo.
Shabbat Shalom!! Chodesh Tov!

What are the effects of high blood sugar?

effects of high blood sugar

effects of high blood sugar

What are the effects of high blood sugar? High blood sugar is extremely dangerous and affects almost every body system. High blood sugar, more commonly called hyperglycemia, causes damage to the body if it stays like that for too long. Diabetes is severe high blood sugar. This condition affects over 30 million people in the United States alone. This disease is quickly becoming an epidemic that has most nations taking notice. Diabetes is where the pancreas organ is not working efficiently and producing the needed amounts of a vital hormone called insulin. Insulin is responsible for the energy that your body has. It must bond with the sugar in the blood before it can be absorbed by the cells. So if there is not enough insulin two things happen. The first thing is that the body starts to weaken as it doesn’t get the fuel it needs. The second severe thing is that the glucose levels begin to rise rapidly. Once those glucose levels reach a certain point they begin to damage the body and some of its main systems. The most common damage that occurs from diabetes is damage to the heart, kidney, eyes, nerves, and the chance of getting diseases. So this means that controlling your blood sugar is extremely important. But what are the effects of high blood sugar?

The most common effects of high blood sugar are damage to main systems. The kidneys become damaged as the kidneys have to pull the excess glucose out of the blood. The heart is damaged by the excess glucose it has to pump. The eyes are extremely susceptible to the damage caused by the high blood sugar levels. The nerves bodies wide are damaged but is mostly felt in the feet. So now you know the effects of high blood sugar.

Continue to pray for Dina Leah Bat Edith…surgery Thursday

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Please continue to pray for Dina Leah  bat Edith. She is a young mother of a two year old child. She has a very rare cancer: adrenal cancer. Doctors have since found what may be a tumor or blood clot in her heart. So, in addition to removing her adrenal glands (and possibly a kidney) she will also  have heart surgery during the operation scheduled for Thursday. The surgery itself is a huge risk not only the cancer. She lives in New York. She has been comforted greatly by knowing that people are davening for her.

Thank you,

Yechezkel Bund
